Cluj-Napoca, Romania’s second largest city, is the easiest start point to reach Salina Turda and Gorge. Turda Salina is essentially an underground playground. There are about 20 different attractions, including boating, ferris wheel, pool and darts. While it is a unique venue, and the mines are massive, it’s definitely aimed at families. If you’re looking for an absolutely incredible tour, try Poland’s Wieliczka Salt Mine.
The bus company Fany runs a minibus services from the north of Cluj-Napoca old town to the centre of Turda. It costs 17 lei (£3/€3) each way. You pay directly to the driver in cash. The bus fills up quickly but they are frequent (up to every 20 minutes, see schedule).
From Turda town centre, you can either walk (about 25 minutes to the old entrance) or take a taxi (around 5 minutes to the new entrance) to the salt mine (Salina Turda). I’d recommend taking a taxi. For the fastest pickup, try using the Bolt app. Note that the salt mine has two separate entrances. The new entrance has a large car park.
